The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says the much-anticipated conduct of the 2018 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination will hold on Feb. 26. JAMB’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday in Lagos said a total of 245,753 of the 1,652,795 candidates that registered for this year’s UTME are expected to write the test.                                             “We are happy to announce to the public that the board has concluded arrangement for the conduct of the mock UTME, slated for Monday, February 26. “This is irrespective of the ongoing strike embarked upon by members of non-academic unions of federal universities nationwide. “Candidates will soon be informed on when to print notifications for the examination and in addition, notifications will be sent through e-mails and text messages on the schedules of their examination,” Benjamin said. Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru, has on Wednesday, called on fuel marketers across the country to make life easy for Nigerians by sticking to the official pump price of N145 per litre of petrol. Baru urged them to follow the example of BOVAS petroleum who stuck to the official pump price of petroleum despite the scarcity of the product. Baru made the appeal in Abuja in a statement by the NNPC Spokesman, Mr Ndu Ughamadu. Dim Chukwuneye Williams who allegedly attempted to smuggle $ 23, 000 from US into the country by concealing it inside a cake, on Thursday appeared in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos . Williams , who resides in Anambra , is standing trial on two counts of attempting to procure the commission of acts and unlawful smuggling . He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges . The prosecutor , Inspector Oladele Adebayo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on February 8 at No . 6 , Gbolade Adebanjo St. , Ilupeju, Lagos . He alleged that the accused had unlawfully smuggled and concealed $ 23 , 000 ( N 8 million naira ) inside a birthday cake . He said the offences contravened sections 406 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised ). The Chief Magistrate , Mrs . A. O . Ajibade, granted bail to the accused in the sum of 2 million naira, with two sureties in like sum . Ajibade said the sureties must own landed properties within the court ’ s jurisdicti

WhatsApp has introduced payments to its messaging app in India, making it the latest service to let users transfer money to one another with a text. After the pilot in India, this peer-to-peer payments, would be available in Nigeria and other African countries and it will have profound effect on banks already hemorrhaging from revenue losses. With the new service, users can now link their bank account to their WhatsApp account via Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and begin making payments straight to another user’s bank account through a WhatsApp chat.
